Flavia Rigamonti Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona. November 23. A pair of distance swimmers, Brittany Massengale of Rice and SMU's Flavia Rigamonti, shared this week's Conference USA Swimmer of the Week accolades. Massengale and Rigamonti posted the top two C-USA times this season in the 1,650-yard freestyle event. Massengale helped her Owls place fourth at the Georgia Tech Invitational over the weekend in Atlanta with a time of 16:40.50, while five-time NCAA champion Rigamonti led the Mustangs with an impressive 15:53.15. Both are NCAA qualifying times. Houston's Tania Cagnotto earned her fourth C-USA Diver of the Week honor folowing the Texas A&M Fall Invitational.

Rigamonti continues to dominate the waters as the senior remains undefeated in distance freestyle events. She picked up two more wins over the weekend at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational and helped the Mustangs take second place at the event. Rigamonti won the 500- and 1650-yard freestyle with NCAA automatic qualifying times in each. For the 500-yard free, Rigamonti finished in a time of 4:42.76, out-touching teammate and closest competitor Katie Roberts by over five seconds. She followed that up with a winning time of 15:53.15 in the 1,650-yard, besting SMU's Anja Carman by nearly 23 seconds.

On the season, Rigamonti is 3-0 in the 500-yard and the 1,000-yard events and 1-0 in the 1,650-yard. She is on pace to garner her fourth NCAA crown in the 1,650 free and third in the 500-yard free. The Ponies have a break for the holidays before returning to the pool, facing No. 1 Georgia in Athens on Saturday, Jan. 7.
