Flash! Stories of 2007 – May-June

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 28. KATE Ziegler was the top story in swimming in the months of May and June. The distance superstar planted a flag on the Mount Everest of distance swimming as she tracked down Janet Evans' 1500 freestyle world record – the oldest on the books. Ziegler's record breaking swim spotlight the Flash!-tagged stories in May and June.

While Ziegler's swim would give the swimming community something positive to talk about a month later, Syracuse's administration made a horrible decision to cut its swimming and diving program. The athletic director is still under heavy fire as the swimming community continues to rally behind the program.

JUNE
A pair of world records went down during the month of June, with Ziegler easily owning the spotlight. Therese Alshammar of Sweden, though, foreshadowed what would be an incredible year for her with the 50 fly standard.
