The nine-time Olympic medalist and 10-time world titlist called it quits after a year-long internal battle over whether he had the drive to remain in the sport when he really had no other obstacles to overcome.

Manaudou Lowers World Record in Short Course 400 Free — December 9, 2006

The last Flash! tagged item of the year belonged to Laure Manaudou. The freestyle phenom, who has made the 400 free events her personal playground, set the short course world record in the event with a time of 3:56.09 at the European Short Course Championships.
