Flash! Schoeman Takes Down Bousquet’s 50 SCM Free Record, First Under 21

HAMBURG, Germany, Aug. 12. IF live results can be believed, Roland Schoeman became the first man to break the 21-second barrier in the 50-meter freestyle semifinals at the Deutscher Ring Aquatics competition taking place Saturday and Sunday.

During the semifinal, Schoeman posted a jaw-dropping 20.98 to obliterate the 21.10 recorded by Fred Bousquet in 2004. The heat proved to be extremely fast, as Lyndon Ferns ripped off a 21.28 that nearly beat Bousquet’s record as well.

Official confirmation of these times will have to wait, but there looks to have been a global standard set. Keep checking on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com for more information on this event.
