Flash! Longhorn Aquatics Coach Will Sarosdy Passes Away

AUSTIN, Texas. May 5. THE swimming community lost a beloved member over the weekend, Will Sarosdy. Will has been affiliated with Longhorn Aquatics and Circle C Swimming for many years as a coach and athlete. He was a 2004 Olympic Trials qualifier and a former member of the University of Texas Men’s Swimming team.

In 2003, Will graduated from Westlake High School in Austin. He was a student at the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the UT men s swim team. In 2004, he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 100-meter backstroke. Will began his swimming career in the Northern Virginia Swim League where he swam for Chesterbrook Swim Club.

It was on the deck of a pool where Will had his largest impact, coaching age-group swimmers who adored him. Will coached the Longhorn Aquatics Swim Club in Austin. He was fiercely devoted to the young swimmers he coached. Above all, he had a beautiful heart. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Will made a tremendous impact on the Longhorn Aquatics program and young swimmers as an assistant coach this past season. He was a passionate coach who shared his love of the sport of swimming with his athletes.

Will Sarosdy passed away on May 5, 2006. Will was born in Washington, D.C. on June 7, 1985 and attended Chesterbrook Elementary School, Longfellow Middle School and McLean High School until his family relocated to Austin, Texas in 2001.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Jane, his brother Frank and his sister Grace, and grandparents Cornel and Cynthia Sarosdy of San Antonio, Frank and Peggy Uchman of Richardson, and Joe and Joy Graffeo of Austin.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Westlake United Methodist Church, 1460 Red Bud Trail. Austin, Texas 78746.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Will s memory to the USA Swimming Foundation c/o USA Swimming, 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
