PALO ALTO, Calif., July 26. OLYMPIC veterans Lindsay Benko and Jenny Thompson, Lenny Krayzelburg and Tom Malchow were elected co-captains of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Swimming team today.

It is the second consecutive time Benko, Thompson and Malchow were elected Olympic team captains. For Krayzelburg, it is a first-time honor.

Benko will swim the 200m free and the 800m free relay while Thompson will compete in the 50 free, 100 fly and both 400 meter relays.

Krayzelburg will swim the 100m back and attempt to defend his 2000 gold medal in the event, and will likely also compete in the medley relay. Malchow will attempt to defend his 200-meter fly crown against world record-holder Michael Phelps.
