Flanders Swimming Cup: Second Day Comes to a Close

ANTWERP, Belgium, January 12. THE second day of long course swimming came to a close at the Flanders Swimming Cup held in Antwerp, Belgium this weekend.

Anna Gostomelski opened the second day like she did the first day, with a win. After taking home the 50 free yesterday, she picked up the 50 fly title in 26.86.

The next event went to Thijs Van Valkengoed, who held off Tryfonas Trivizas, 29.17 to 29.26, to win the men's 50 breast.

Sweden's Josefin Lillhage asserted herself in the 100 free with a winning effort of 55.47, while Stef Verachten touched out Glenn Surgeloose, 1:49.77 to 1:49.87, to win the men's 200 free.

Elise Matthysen dominated the women's 100 breast with a top time of 1:09.72, while Bruno Claeys picked up the win in the men's 100 back in 56.50.

In the women's 400 free, Carolin Van Den Eede surfaced victorious with a time of 4:34.35, while Ioannis Drymonakos edged Ioannis Kokkodis in the men's 200 IM, 2:03.59 to 2:03.65.

Brenda Rodiers touched first in the women's 200 back in 2:23.32, before Tom Beeri pocketed the men's 200 breast title in 2:17.21.

In the women's 200 fly, Griet Buelens hit the wall in 2:17.13 for the victory, while Mathieu Fonteyn grabbed the men's 100 fly title in 54.13.

Eleftheri Efstathiou crushed the field in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:55.67, while Brian Ryckeman earned the men's 1500 free crown in 15:31.64 – also a dominant win of nearly a minute.

Silke Van Hoof finished first in the women's 50 back (29.59), while Shai Livnat held off Stavros Kirmitzoglou, 23.33 to 23.84, for the men's 50 free win.
