Five-Star Payne Montgomery Going Cross Country

COLUMBIA, South Carolina, November 5. SWIMMING World five-star recruit Payne Montgomery, who is also known as Mack, is heading to the West Coast for his collegiate years.

Montgomery, who swims for SwimMAC-Carolina and preps at Cannon School, will be making Stanford his home during the next four years. Montgomery owns U.S. Olympic Trials cuts in the 200-meter free (1:51.68) and 400-meter free (3:57.72)

"I believe Stanford has the most academic opportunities in the fields of study I am interested in pursuing, and is the best academic fit for me of any school in the country," Montgomery told Swimming World. "As well, I have the opportunity to achieve anything I can dream in the swimming pool, and I felt great rapport with the team and the coaches. All together, these factors made Stanford the best fit for me."

Montgomery is the first public pledge for the Stanford men's team.
