Five More Spanish National Standard Tumble at Spanish National Championships

BARCELONA, Spain, July 25. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the Spanish National Championships held in Barcelona, Spain. Notably, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Rafael Munoz added individual standards in the 100 fly to the 50 fly records they set yesterday.

Cisneros became the first female Spaniard under a minute in the 100 butterfly when she won the national title in a Spanish-record time of 59.92. That performance eclipsed the 1:00.13 set by Mireia Garcia Sanchez on June 25, 2005.

Munoz also knocked off a 100 fly record when he hit the wall in 53.35 to erase the 53.64 set by Daniel Morales on June 30, 2001.

Meanwhile, relay teams took aim at the Spanish record books in a big way as three of the four events swam wound up with new Spanish standards.

The team of Javier Noriega, Jose Javier Cabanas, Jimenez Castellano and Fernando del Villar Cuerda broke the Spanish record in the men's 200 free relay with a time of 1:31.27, while the same squad set the 400 free relay record with a 3:24.17 readout.

For the women, Cisneros, Jesus Palacios Armas, Carmen Alvarez Arenas and Aracelli Herraez de la Calle erased the Spanish standard in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:44.29, while Maria Fuster Martinez, Melanie Costa Schmid, Roser Vives Moya and Tatiana Rouba set the meet record in the 400 free with a clocking of 3:48.77.

Plenty of other winners emerged triumphant without meet or national records.

Aschwin Wildeboar Faber won the men's 50 back in 26.42, while Nina Zhivanevskaya took home the women's 50 back title in 29.44.

In the 200 freestyle events, Olaf Wildeboar Faber snagged the men's crown in 1:51.14, while Martinez captured the women's in 2:01.24.

The 400 IM races followed with Carlos Vives Gomis touching first in the men's event with a time of 4:29.09, while Mireia Belmonte Garcia won the women's race in 4:46.85.
