Five Alabama Student-Athletes Named to Academic All-District IV At-Large Team

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama, May 24. FIVE University of Alabama Student-Athletes representing five different sports earned a berth on the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV At-Large Team.

Senior swimmer Kevin Greer and junior gymnast Kassi Price both earned first team All-District while senior rower Stacy Ogle, junior diver Elizabeth Hughes and senior tennis player Saketh Myneni were named to the second team. Greer and Price are under consideration for the CoSIDA All-American At-Large teams that will be decided in the weeks to come.

Each school can nominate a maximum of three men and three women for the at-large team which encompasses 13 women's and 12 men's sports. District IV includes schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee. The Crimson Tide led the way with three women and tied Ohio State with a combined five men and women on the District IV team.

Greer holds a 4.0 grade point average for his collegiate career and graduated in May with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Mathematics.

"Kevin enjoyed a tremendous career at Alabama and certainly made the most of every opportunity," UA head swimming and diving coach Eric McIlquham said.

A native of Sylacauga, Ala., Greer earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and will attend the University of Alabama School of Medicine starting this fall. The ninth fastest 50 freestyler in Alabama history Greer turned in the Tide's top 50 freestyle time as a junior and senior.

Price, who carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average for her career, is making her second appearance on the District IV first team. She also earned CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American At-Large honors last year.

"Kassi has excelled in all facets of the collegiate experience and continues to have the kind of career we want for all our ladies," head gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson said.

A two-year All-American and a member of the 2009 SEC Championship team, Price native is also a two-time individual NCAA regional champion. The Plantation, Fla. native has been inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honorary recognizing the top 10-percent of the business school's junior class.

Ogle, a native of Albertville, Ala. carries a 4.00 GPA in communications and is a member of the Crimson Tide's First Varsity 8+ crew that earned a silver medal at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. Hughes, the 2009 Southeastern Conference Platform Champion, is a native of Maryville, Tenn. and has a 3.94 GPA in psychology. Myneni, a native of Andhra Pradesh, India, carrying a 3.79 gpa in finance, is a 2009 All-SEC First Team selection was named the ITA's 2009 Southeast Region Player to Watch.
