MIAMI, Fla., January 13. FIU's newest arrival freshman Claudia Barsi was named on Tuesday the Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week. The freshman that just arrived to FIU from Budapest, Hungary nearly three weeks ago has made an immediate impact for the first-year program. On Sunday, in the final home meet of the year for FIU, she was victorious in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:27.86) by nearly 13 seconds and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.39) with a six-second margin of victory. On Saturday against cross-town rival Miami and Houston, she was second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:35.87).
Earlier this year, fellow Hungarian and FIU teammate Viktoria Molnar earned the annual recognition from the Sun Belt Conference. Up next for Barsi, Molnar and the Golden Panthers is a triangular on January 24 against Florida Atlantic and Indian River at Fort Pierce, Fla.
