First Photos of Venue for 2013 Student Games and 2015 Worlds Released

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, April 5. WITH less than 100 days until the start of the swimming competition at the 2013 World University Games, the first official photo of the completed venue has been released, bound to get athletes excited for the upcoming competition.

The Aquatic Palace in Kazan, Russia, will feature 4,500 seats for spectators to view the swimming, diving and synchronized swimming events. Swimming is scheduled to begin competition on July 10, with diving and synchronized swimming set to start July 5.

The venue will also be the site of the 2015 FINA world championships, which returns the swimming portion to a more intimate setting after tens of thousands packed into the facilities for the 2007, 2009 and 2011 editions. This summer's event will be held in an arena setting with seating for 12,000.

Immediately after the 2015 world championships, FINA will host the Masters world championships, the first time both meets will be held in the same year and at the same venue. The sheer number of expected entrants in the Masters world championships will require a second 50-meter pool for competition, and FINA has not announced specifics regarding constructing a second pool.
