Finals, Day 1, Telkom 2004 South African Short Course Swimming Championships

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, September 6. SOUTH Africa is holding its short course nationals this weekend. Day one was September 2. The record swims in finals included:

Tamaryn Laubscher,20 Tuks-NT, who broke Mandy Loots African Continental/South African record of 4:44.69 in the 400 Individual Medley with a 4:44.31 performance.

Melisa Corfe, 18 SGUL-KZ, also had both Continental and National records, with her 1500 freestyle of 16:16.56, taking nearly 16 seconds off Marizanne Grunlingh's old mark.

Finally, another Continental/National record fell in the Women's 4 x 200 freestyle relay. The old mark set last year by Dolphins Swimming Club at 8:28.85 was dropped by over six seconds, to 8:22.63, by a Tuks Aquatics Club squad of 1) Laubscher, Tamaryn 20, 2) Van Biljon, Suzaan 16,
3) Meyer, Bianca 15 and 4) Wedemeyer, Erna 18 .
