FINA World Short Course Championships: Russia’s Stanislav Donets Sets Meet Record to Lead 50 Back Semis

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 17. RUSSIA's Stanislav Donets put on a show in the men's 50 back semifinal heats at the FINA World Short Course Championships. Donets clocked in at 23.02 to beat his preliminary meet record of 23.24 set this morning.

Donets will be looking for more in the final, as he already has the top-ranked time of 22.74 set at the European Short Course Championships.

China's Sun Xiaolei lowered his national record even further with a 23.23 during the semifinal heats for the second seed. In prelims, he clocked a 23.41 to break his Chinese record of 23.73 set twice in 2008 and 2009.

France's Camille Lacourt (23.37), Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer Faber (23.44), Brazil's Guilherme Guido (23.53), USA's Nick Thoman (23.53), Australia's Ben Treffers (23.63) and France's Jeremy Stravius (23.74) earned the rest of the transfer spots into finals.
