FINA World Short Course Championships: Felipe Silva Clears 26 Seconds for 50 Breast Triumph

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 19. BRAZIL's Felipe Silva became the first man under 26 seconds this year in the men's 50 breast at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Silva clocked a meet-record time of 25.95 to beat Cameron van der Burgh's meet record of 26.14 set earlier in the meet. Silva also bettered the previously top-ranked time of 26.09 set by Roland Schoeman at the Berlin stop of the World Cup.

Van der Burgh finished second tonight in 26.03 to move to second in the rankings, while Norway's Aleksander Hetland rounded out the top three in 26.29.

Schoeman (26.41), USA's Mike Alexandrov (26.44), The Netherlands' Robin van Aggele (26.50) and Russia's Aleksandr Triznov (26.71) placed fourth through seventh. Italy's Fabio Scozzoli was disqualified.
