ROME, Italy, July 30. CHINA's Zhao Jing smashed the world record in the women's 50 back to reclaim the standard at the FINA World Championships.
Zhao clocked a stunning time of 27.06, which crushed Anastasia Zueva's world record of 27.38. The performance put the record back in Zhao's grasp, which she previously set with a 27.67 to tie Sophie Edington earlier this year.
The top four swimmers all beat Zueva's world record heading into the race as Germany's Daniela Samulski took second in 27.23. China's Gao Chang gave her country a 1-3 finish on the podium with a 27.28, while Zueva faded to fourth in 27.31.
Belarus' Aleksandra Gerasimenya (27.62), Edington (27.73), Australia's Emily Seebohm (27.83) and Brazil's Fabiola Molina (27.88) also vied for the world title.
