FINA Water Polo Development Trophy, Day 2

KUWAIT City, Kuwait, May 8. TWO games on the second day of action at the FINA Water Polo Development Trophy featured unbeaten teams in their respective groups. Saudi Arabia and Uruguay met in Group A competition, and Uzbekistan faced Puerto Rico in Group B.

Saudi Arabia won each period by one goal on their way to an 11-7 final score to defeat the Uruguay team. Saudi Arabia now is at the top of the Group A standings. With an 8-goal performance by Kiril Rustomova, Uzbekistan overcame a 0-2 first period to win their contest 15-10 over Puerto Rico.

Tunisia and Egypt–both North African countries–met in what was perhaps the most physical and intense match of the tournament to date. Egypt dominated the contest, winning with a score of 19-7. The other game featured Singapore and Puerto Rico. Both teams had trouble hanging onto the ball long enough to score in the first part of the game. Singapore took control in the second half and prevailed, 15-6.

Kuwait got into the action after sitting out the first day's action. They totally dominated the Guatemala team, finishing with a 24-3 score. South Africa was the odd team out this session.

Tomorrow's matches will include a match between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, the top two teams in Group A. The outcome will determine the first-place squad of Group A.
