FINA 10K World Cup, Santos: Ana Marcela Cunha, Simone Ercoli Win First Stop

SANTOS, Brazil, January 24. THE first stop of the 2009 FINA 10K World Cup took place in Santos, Brazil. Ana Marcela Cunha, of the host nation, won the women's title. Meanwhile, Simone Ercoli of Italy pocketed the men's crown.

Cunha stopped the clock in 2:09:49 for the women's victory, while teammate Poliana Okimoto finished just behind for second in 2:09:58. Nadine Pastor of Argentina wound up third in 2:10:00.

Ercoli held off compatriot Luca Ferretti, 2:05:44 to 2:05:49 for the men's triumph, while fellow Italian Valerio Cleri walked away with third place in 2:05:54.

The next stop of the series will not take place until June 27 when Setubal, Portugal plays host to the Olympic distance competition.
