FINA 10K World Cup, Open Water Swimming Grand Prix Meets Take Place

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, August 2. AFTER successfully hosting the 6th FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships, from July 15-23, 2010, the Lac St-Jean in Roberval (CAN) gathered once more the best swimmers in this discipline for the leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup on July 25, and for the 32km race of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix, on July 31.

On the shorter event, the US athletes clearly dominated the field, with Charles Peterson and Francis Crippen getting the first two positions in the men's race – Peterson got the gold in 2h05m13s1, while Crippen earned silver in 2h05m15s1. The same outcome happened among women, with Christine Jennings (2h09m35s6) and Eva Fabian (2h09m35s7) occupying the first two positions.

The bronze went to Chad Ho (RSA) in the men's field, while Brazil's Ana Marcela Cunha was third in the women's race. 29 swimmers (14 men and 15 women) took part in this event.

On July 31, Petar Stoychev (BUL) got his 10th victory in the 32km race in Lac St-Jean, finishing first in 6h40m22s. The experienced champion was followed by Simon Tobin (CAN, second) and by Damian Blaum (ARG, third).

Among women, Argentina was even more successful, with the gold going to Pilar Geijo and the silver to her compatriot Antonella Bogarin. Spain's Esther Nunez Morera finished third.
