Female Relay Records Tumble at Night One of 2017 Speedo Juniors West

The 2017 Speedo Junior Championships West meet splashed into action with two relay records falling on the first night of action. Both the 200 medley relays and the 800 free relays were contested.

The girls of Fort Collins got the meet off to a record-breaking start, posting a new Juniors West record in the women’s 200 medley relay. The relay team of Bayley Stewart (25.26), Zoe Bartel (27.08), Coleen Gillilan (23.56), and Kylee Alons (21.75) turned in a combined time of 1:37.65 to better their own previous record of 1:38.85.

Scottsdale Aquatic Club finished second overall with a time of 1:40.07, followed by Crow Canyon’s time of 1:40.35.

On the men’s side, it was Academy Bullets’ Spencer Walker (22.33), Caleb Carlson (25.56), Horace Qiao (21.18), and William Kamps (20.54) who picked up the victory. Irvine Novaquatics’ team grabbed second with a time of 1:30.16, just ahead of Nitro Swimming’s 1:30.66.

The girls continued to deliver record-breaking swims as both the Magnolia Aquatic Club and Austin Swim Club posted times faster than the existing meet record of 7:07.81 in the 800 free relay. Magnolia’s Lucie Nordmann (1:46.16), Monica Gumina (1:46.96), Kaitlynn Sims (1:47.60), and Lillie Nordmann (1:45.19) delivered a time of 7:05.91 to blitz past the previous record, set by Carmel Swim Club in 2016.

Austin Swim Club’s Dakota Luther (1:46.38), Ella Collins (1:46.63), Diana Dunn (1:47.02), and Kendall Shields (1:47.56) also swam beneath the previous record, stopping the clock at a combined time of 7:07.59.

Irvine Novaquatics rounded out the top three with a time of 7:13.08.

The North Texas Nadadores claimed victory in the men’s 800 free relay, as team members Jack Levant (1:34.53), David Hallaron (1:38.90), Logan Davis (1:39.42), and Kevin Repice (1:39.75) turned in a final time of 6:32.60.

Irvine Novaquatics posted a second place finish of 6:33.26, while the Katy Aquatic Team was third with a 6:40.13.
