Federico Turrini Grabs 3rd in World in 400 IM in Italy

Federico Turrini skyrocketed to third in the world in the men’s 400-meter IM during day two at the Italian Swimming Championships.

Turrini clocked a time of 4:13.20 with only Kosuke Hagino (4:08.54) and Daiya Seto (4:10.97) having been faster this year, both at the Japanese National Championships.  Giorgio Gaetani took second tonight in 4:16.81 with Francesco Pavone winding up third in 4:18.42.

Silvia Di Pietro won the women’s 50-meter fly in 26.36 with Elena Gemo taking a close second in 26.47.  Ilaria Bianchi wound up third in 26.94.

Matteo Rivolta moved up to 11th in the world rankings with a 52.05 in the men’s 100-meter fly.  Piero Codia took second tonight in 52.16 with Daniele D’Angelo earning third in 53.05.

Ilaria Scarcela topped the women’s 200-meter breast in 2:26.61 with Giulia Verona taking second in 2:26.98 in a close contest.  Francesca Fangio clocked in with a third-place time of 2:27.14.

Lorenzo Antonelli claimed the men’s 100-meter breast title in 1:00.92. Andrea Toniato tied Fabio Scozzoli for second with 1:01.19s.

Erika Ferraioli touched out Alice Mizzau, 54.90 to 54.96, in the women’s 100-meter free.  Aglaia Pezzato snared third in 55.56.
