European Open Water Championships: Margarita Dominguez of Spain Wins Women’s 25K

DUBROVNIK, Croatia, September 14. SPAIN's Margarita Dominguez walked away with the women's 25K crown to close out the European Open Water Championships this year.

Dominguez finished the marathon race with a time of 5:38:35.3, while open water veteran Britta Kamrau-Corestein of Germany took second in 5:39:00.2. Russia's Anna Uvarova completed the podium in 5:39:06.6.

Notably, Edith van Dijk of the Netherlands tied Martina Grimaldi of Italy for fourth with matching times of 5:39:18.0. According to several reports, the swim will mark van Dijk's second retirement from the sport. A multiple Open Water Swimmer of the Year, van Dijk came out of retirement to compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
