European Games Medalists Vasilissa Buynaya, Polina Egorova Among Top Scorers at Russian Juniors

On the last day of Russian Juniors 15 years old Vasilissa Buynaya from Nizhny Novgorod won girls 50 free with 25.44. Buynaya was among contenders for the gold in the 50 free final at European games but was disqualified. If her brilliant swim was an attempt to redeem for Baku dissappointment, it totally payed off: not only it brought her to the gold medal but also it was one of the most impressive wins in the whole meet. Buynaya managed to touch the wall by 0.9 faster – a huge lead for 50m event – than a silver medalist Valeria Bodnya (26.32). Anastasia Korzunina finished third with 26.35.

After her yestarday’s gold in 50 butterfly, six time European Games champion Polina Egorova doubled up with her solid win in the 200 individual medley. Egorova posted 2:16.54, almost three seconds ahead of Alexandra Maslova (2:19.48). Marina Namazova got bronze 2:20.59. In the 4×100 individual medley, Egorova set up a rapid lead-off, posted 1:02.24, a result that would have won her gold in 100 backstroke.

Vladislav Kozlov from Samara and Bryansky Alexey from Irkutsk tied for gold in mens 50 free with 22.87. Both winners was among national team members for European Games in Baku when Bryansky won bronze in the 50 free final. For 18 years old Kozlov, it was the third individual gold of the meet (he also won a silver). Arseny Badamshin was third, 23.02.

All-round Nikolay Sokolov got his second individual medley title. After his win in 400 IM, he added the 200 Im to his golden collection (2:03.79). 17 years old from Volgograd won in a tough battle with Balyberdin Igor (2:04.93) and Zotov Alexander (2:05.86).

Alexandra Chesnokova from Moscow won girls 100 butterfly with 1.00.53. Natalia Mozhina, multi-medalist of the meet, left with silver (1:01.06) and Ulyana Vataeva got bronze, 1:01.82.

17 years old Rustam Gadirov won mens 100 breaststroke (1:02.70). After bronze in the 50, he managed to touch out the 50 breast gold medalist Egor Suchkov (1:02.35) and Konstantin Borovskikh (1:02.73),

Varvara Simonova, a 14 years old from Perm, celebrated the victory in the 400 free. Three girls battled for the gold till the finish and Simonova managed to put her hand on the wall first – 4:19.60. Irina Krivonogova got silver (4:20.24) and Oksana Logvinova was bronze, 4:20.84.

Ilya Druzhinin from Volgograd got his title in 800 free, with Evgeny Drobotov finished second (8:14.22) and Kyamran Samedov was third, 8:16.16.
