European Championships: Germany Sweeps Gold on Fifth Day of Diving

BUDAPEST, Hungary, August 13. THE German contingent put together a strong day, finishing with both gold medals on offer in diving at the European Championships. The women's 10-meter synchro and men's three-meter individual event titles were up for grabs heading into this evening.

Aside from one dive in the fourth round, Germany's Christin Steuer and Nora Subschinski dominated the women's 10-meter synchro event with 319.68 points. The duo posted the top dive of every round outside of the fourth-round effort of 65.28 points. Ukraine's Iluia Prokopchuk and Alina Chaplenko finished second overall with 306.30 points, while Great Britain's Monique Gladding and Megan Sylvester took bronze with 300.66 points.

Germany's Patrick Hausding topped the men's three-meter individual event by 5.05 points over Russia's Ilya Zakharov, 463.20 to 458.15. Zakharov had led by 18.75 points going into the final round, but posted the 10th-best dive and fell to second. Hausding, meanwhile, turned in a 91.80 on the final dive to catch Zakharov. Russia's Evgeny Kuznetsov finished third overall with 455.80 points.
