Euro Meet: Randall Bal, Radoslaw Kawecki Set Meet Records; Jenny Mensing, Coralie Balmy Double Up

LUXEMBOURG, January 31. THE final day of long course meter competition featured two more meet records going in the books at the Euro Meet held in Luxembourg.

Randall Bal broke the meet record in the men's 50 back with a time of 25.21. That performance cleared the 25.76 set by Vyacheslav Shyrshov back in 2004. Radoslaw Kawecki placed second in 26.47, while Dorian Gandin took third in 26.84. Jenny Mensing opened the final day with a 29.72 to win the women's 50 back. She finished just half-a-second off the meet record of 29.32 set by Iryna Amshennikova in 2006. Alexandra Wenk finished second in 30.12, while Sarah Rolko took third in 30.19.

Mensing doubled up with a 2:13.64 in the women's 200 back. She came up another half-second short of a meet record. Annika Lurz's 2:13.15 from 2007 withstood the challenge. Daryna Zevina took second in 2:18.01, while Paula Beyer finished third in 2:19.08. Kawecki crushed the meet record in the men's 200 back with a 1:59.88. He smashed the 2:02.28 set by Yannick Lebherz last year. Lebherz settled for second in 2:02.11, under his former top time from the meet. Lucien Hasdenteufel rounded out the podium in 2:03.78.

Coralie Balmy cruised in the women's 400 free with a victorious 4:13.53. Franziska Jansen turned in a second-place 4:15.98, while Rieneke Terink touched third in 4:16.49. Heerden Herman eased through the men's 400 free with a 3:54.42. Christian Kubusch grabbed second in 3:57.54, while Sergiy Frolov picked up third in 3:59.81.

Balmy doubled up in the women's 100 free with a 56.56. She touched out Silke Lippok, who finished second in 56.58. Mylene Lazare earned third in 57.08. In another close contest, Alain Bernard beat Steffen Deibler, 49.58 to 49.94, in the men's 100 free. Christophe Fildebrandt snared third in 51.10.

Uta Muller dropped a 1:01.61 to win the women's 100 fly, while Hessischer Scwhimm – Verband teammate Annika Mehlhorn touched out Franziska Hentke, 1:02.00 to 1:02.08, for second-place honors. Deibler followed in the men's 100 fly with a winning 53.52. Denys Dubrov placed second in 54.23, while Christophe Lebon completed the top three in 54.77.

Sybille Dalacker posted a 1:12.69 to win the women's 100 breast, while Vanessa Grimberg touched second in 1:13.10. Laura Simon took third in 1:13.15. Laurent Carnol followed in the men's 100 breast with a top time of 1:02.76. Igor Borysik captured second in 1:03.29, while Marco Koch touched third in 1:04.53.
