Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Synchronized Swimming Championships Conclude

OXFORD, Ohio, July 2. THE 2007 Esynchro U.S. Age Group National Championships concluded this weekend at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. The event began June 23, ran through June 30 and marked the world's largest Synchronized Swimming Championships.

Both the 16-17 and 18-19 Age Groups wrapped up with finals competition in the solo, duet, trio and team events. In the 18-19 age group, the Nevada Desert Mermaids (Ashley Taylor and Karli Farris) struck gold in the duet while Cincinnati's Lauren Robinson and Meaghan Suhich took home silver. Robinson also claimed the national championship title in the 18-19 solo. In the team event, the Arizona Aqua Stars took home the top spot while the Cincinnati Synchrogators claimed the second place position.

In the trio, the Arizona Aqua Stars (Hannah Creaser, Jamie Flanery and Shannon Noble) took first place followed by the Tampa Bay Synchrays, which produced a team in both the silver (Camille Young, Keeley Lawner and Bethan Gillett) and bronze medal (Alceste Laurenti, Brittany McCauley and Logan Wilson) positions. Host Cincinnati (Annie Dillard, Monica Finnigan and Kaycee Meyer) finished in fourth place.

In the 16-17 Age Group, the New Canaan Y Aquianas of Connecticut (Kelsey Smith, Casey Aion and Rebecca Gordon) claimed the gold medal in the trio event while the Arizona Aqua Stars (Caitlin Hoffman, Samantha Schmidt and Kristin Wills) took silver. The Cincinnati Synchrogators (Jenny Jarboe, Tara Porter and Becca Schall) finished the event in seventh place in front of a home crowd.

In the duet, the Santa Clara Aquamaids of California (Megan Azebu and Wendy Lu) finished in first place while Seattle Synchro (Katie LaBounty and Liane Lovitt) followed in second place. In the solo event, Morgan Thomas of Santa Clara grabbed the top spot while Seattle Synchro's Liane Lovitt finished in second place. In the team event, New Canaan took home gold followed by the Arizona Aqua Stars and the Riverside Aquettes. Host team Cincinnati claimed the fifth-place position.

The grassroots competition featured more than 1,000 athletes, including up-and-coming junior athletes and several reigning age group national champions. Swimmers competed for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups: 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.

The Championships were hosted by the Cincinnati Synchrogators and Miami University Aquatics.
