Erik Namesnik Memorial Swim Meet: Leah Smith Collects Third Win on Night Two

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, May 26. SEVERAL repeat winners emerged during the second evening of finals at the Erik Namesnik Memorial Swim Meet, held at the University of Pittsburgh.

Jewish Community Center's Leah Smith, already a winner of the 200 and 800 freestyles last night, added the middle distance free title with a victory in the 400 free. Smith touched in 4:15.32, six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Caitlyn Karr (4:21.49) of Nittany Lion Aquatic Club. Claire Singley, also of NLAC, finished a distant third in 4:31.70. Drew Damich of Mount Lebanon captured the men's 400 free in 4:16.38, in front of Jewish Community Center's Neal Smith (4:19.93) and Mount Lebanon's Kyle Higgins (4:21.53).

Briana Emig collected her second individual medley win of the meet with the fastest swim in the 400 IM, 4:55.69. Claire Singley took second in a difficult double in 5:01.80, while Team Pittsburgh's Veronica Lee was third (5:14.75). Nittany Lion's Chris Cipolla also doubled up in the IM events, winning the men's 400 IM in 4:29.98. Justin Kostelnik of Laurel Highlands YMCA touched 20 seconds back in 4:49.96, while Austin Mortimer of Franklin Area Swim Team grabbed third in 5:05.84.

After winning the 100 fly last night, NLAC's Sean Grier punched the wall first in the 100 back tonight in 57.85. Upper St. Clair's Ryan Dudzinski (59.85) and NLAC's Jeffrey Gomez (1:00.80) rounded out the top three. Margaret Gruber of Fox Chapel Killer Whales won the women's 100 back in 1:04.33, in front of teammate Heidi Miller (1:07.12) and Mount Lebanon's Kathryn Ford (1:10.27).

Melissa Gates (25.96) and Andrew Sideras (23.92) proved to be the fastest swimmers in the splash-and-dash, the 50 free. It marked both swimmers' first individual title of the meet. NLAC's Amy Lewis (2:37.91) and Jewish Community Center's Luke Nobisch (2:24.90) each earned wins in the respective women's and men's 200 breast.
