Emily Overholt Wins Twice in Final Session of Mel Zajac Invitational

Emily Overholt made an impressive showing during the final session of the Mel Zajac Invitational winning both the women’s 200 fly and the 100 free. Overholt dropped an astonishing 5.29 seconds to win the 200 fly with a 2:12.91. Jacomie Strydom (2:14.97) and Jessie Gibson (2:18.88) followed Overholt to the wall to round out the top three.

Rachel Nicol grabbed first in the women’s 50 breaststroke with a 31.59. Rebecca Terejko finished second with a 32.45, while Tera Van Beilen was third with a 32.73.

Kevin Cordes continued his success in the breaststroke with a 28.57 to grab first in the 50 breaststroke. Andrew Poznikoff took second with a 29.02, while Sergey Holson was third with a 29.46.

The men’s 200 fly was a close race with Andrew Torres and Yeziel Morales finishing a slim .04 seconds apart. Torres succeeded in edging out the competition with a 2:03.16, dropping 3.82 seconds from his prelims time. Despite his second place finish Morales dropped a stunning 2.30 seconds to touch in 2:03.20. Jon McKay was third with 2:05.35.

Overholt’s second win came in the 100 free with a finishing time of 56.77, almost an entire second ahead of the competition. Meryl McCann snagged second with a 57.52, and Ashley Sutherland took third with a 57.91.

Yuri Kisil and Stefan Milosevic kept a close race in the men’s 100 free finishing .33 seconds apart. Kisil claimed the win with a 50.49 to edge out Milosevic’s 50.82. Luis Flores was third with a 51.75.

Ingrid Wilm and Johanna Roas kept it stroke-for-stroke in the women’s 100 back with strikingly close splits. Wilm grabbed the lead in the first 50 and succeeded in holding off Roas for a finishing time of 1:02.47. Ross finished soon after with a 1:02.64. Keaton Blovad took third with a 1:04.38.

Russell Wood ended the invitational with a first place finish in the men’s 100 back. Wood finished with a time of 55.88, dropping 1.86 seconds off his prelims time. Carter Griffin grabbed second with a 56.66, also dropping more than a second off his time from prelims. Markus Thormeyer took third with a 57.15.
