Elizabeth Pelton Routed Field En Route to 200 Backstroke American Record Race Video Included

ATHENS, Georgia, December 5. ELIZABETH Pelton was without peer in the final of the 200-yard backstroke at the Athens Invitational last weekend, lowering her own American record to 1:48.90.

So far ahead of the field was Pelton that in this video from Georgia's athletic department — the only video we know of that exists of the swim — Pelton swims offscreen for most of the race, as the focus was on Georgia swimmer Kelsey Gaid in lane two.

Pelton is far and away the favorite for the NCAA title in the event. No swimmer has broken 1:50 in the event at the NCAA championships since Kate Fesenko did it in 2010 with a 1:49.92 victory.
