Eddie Reese Recovering From Heart Surgery

AUSTIN, Texas, January 27. TEXAS' Eddie Reese recently underwent heart surgery to "open a coronary artery that was 99.9 percent blocked," according to the American-Statesman.

A week ago, Reese went under the knife in what was deemed a successful surgery that involved placing three stents in Reese's artery.

"He was at some risk for a heart attack," cardiologist Paul Tucker told the American-Statesman. Tucker is Texas swimmer Samantha Tucker's father.

Reese first began having issues on his way to the Texas-Texas A&M basketball game on Wednesday of last week, and decided to get himself checked out.

"There are people who have symptoms who die because they didn't get anything checked," Reese told the American-Statesman. "I'm fixed, it's like that country song: I'm not afraid of dying, but I don't want to do it today."

The American-Statesman also questioned Reese on whether his health could impact any decision on remaining at the University of Texas.

"I'm going to go before anybody wants me to go, but the guys are still laughing at my jokes," Reese said. "I am getting better. I want all my swimmers going fast. That's what I live for."
