Eastern Michigan Invitational Day Two

YPSILANTI, Michigan, December 1. THE Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving continued its domination on the second day of the EMU Invite, finishing with 1,180 points and another title. This was the 10th consecutive EMU Invitational title for the Green and White.

During the morning session, the 200 medley relay team of Andrzej Olesinski, Don Ellison, Ryan Fulkerson and Derick Roe won the first race of the day. Ellison then followed that up with a personal victory in the 400 individual medley. Also placing well for EMU were Adam Wohl and Dan Kish, who finished third and fourth respectively. Fulkerson won the 100 butterfly, with Olesinski taking third. Steven Bowling took the 200 freestyle, with freshmen Dave Stefl and Tyler Groskopf finishing fourth and fifth. The 100 breaststroke race was the first race of the invite that the Eagles did not win, as the Eagles' best finish was a third place showing by Wohl. EMU concluded the morning session by winning the 800 freestyle relay behind the team of Kish, Ellison, Olesinski and Bowling.

EMU started the evening session with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay behind the team of Michael Rowland, Olesinski, Ethan Crabtree and Roe. Kish and Bowling then finished first and second in the 500 freestyle. Ellison finished fifth, with Mark Kurtzer taking fifth in the 200 IM, followed by EMU taking four of the top five spots in the 50 freestyle. Roe finished first, with Rowland taking second, Crabtree finishing third and Olesinski rounding out the top five. Mitch Kellerman finished second in the three-meter dive, while teammate Chris Alberty took third. The Eagles finished the day strong, with the 400 medley relay team of Kurtzer, Ellison, Fulkerson and Roe capturing the last event of the Invitational.

The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team claimed second place of the EMU Invitational for the fifth consecutive season. The Eagles accumulated 920.5 points to finish runner-up to the University of Michigan.

EMU started off the morning session with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Alissa Riccard, Sheila Carson, Elisa Torres and Catherine Lee Ha. Leeza Moser then turned in a fifth-place showing in the 400 IM, with Torres finishing second and Summer Wood fourth in the 100 butterfly. Madeleine Pilchard took second in the 200 freestyle with teammates Hannah Burandt and Ricard taking third and fifth respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Carson finished fourth, as Ashley Durand took fifth. Freshman Tracy Morgan placed third in the 100 backstroke; with the 800 freestyle relay team of Steph Cholyk, Burandt, Ricard and Pilchard ending the morning session with a second place finish. EMU was in second place with 659.5 points heading into the final session.

In the evening session, the Eagles started strong by taking the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Cholyk, Lee Ha, Ricard and Pilchard. Pilchard then finished fourth, with Burandt taking fifth in the 500 freestyle. Lee Ha placed second in the 50 freestyle, with Becky Renkola taking fourth in the one-meter dive. The 400 medley relay team of Morgan, Chelsea Allard, Moser and Burandt placed fourth to end the day for the Eagles. EMU finished with 920.5 points on the day, good for second place and over 300 points better than the third-place finishing Mid-American Conference foe Toledo.
