Eastern Illinois Sweeps Conference-Rival Valparaiso

CHARLESTON, Illinois, January 21. Swimming in their first home meet since early November, Eastern Illinois swimmers swept Mid-Continent Conference rival Valparaiso University on Saturday afternoon at the Lantz Natatorium.

The Eastern Illinois women won 10 of 13 events scoring a 138-94 victory over Valparaiso. Brittany Winiger was one of the Panthers strong swimmers picking up victories in the 1000 free, 400 IM, and 500 free. Marlise Davidson also secured wins for EIU in 200 free, 100 free, and as a member of the 400 Medley Relay.

EIU's men had four individual wins by Matt Latham (200 free), Bill Senese (50 free), Patrick Leneave (200 butterfly), and Thomas Showers (200 backstroke) as the Panthers claimed a 141-75 win. Dave Trabilsy also swept the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions for EIU.

The Panthers will return to action on Thursday evening with a 5:30 p.m. meet at IUPUI. EIU returns to Lantz Natatorium for its final home meet on Saturday, Feb. 3 against Saint Louis.
