East Carolina vs. William and Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia, February 7. WILLIAM and Mary Tribe women's freshman swimmer Hailey Hewitt tied the College's record for single season individual victories on Saturday afternoon against East Carolina University. Despite the strong effort from the Green and Gold, the Tribe wasn't able to overcome ECU, falling 163-137. The Tribe men's team also swam well, but fell by a final score of 189.5-106.5.

Hewitt claimed her 27th victory on the season in impressive fashion, setting a Rec Center Pool record in the 200 back with her time of 2:04.44. The freshman is tied with junior Katie Radloff, who won 27 individual events during her freshman season of 2006-07.

Radloff continued her great spring season, remaining unbeaten in four meets. The Arlington, Va., native won the 50 free (23.57), the 100 free (51.32), and the 100 back (57.69). Radloff was also apart of the Tribe's victorious 200 free relay team that also set a Rec Center Pool record with their time of 1:36.19. Junior Lindsey Guers, senior Marina Falcone, and sophomore Emily Burns accompanied Radloff on the winning relay team.

Falcone finished her career at the Rec Center Pool on a strong note, winning the 500 free on Senior Day with a time of 5:04.16. Falcone will finish her career at the College with 63 individual victories, ranking her fourth all-time at William and Mary.

Rounding out the Green and Gold's effort was Guers, who won the 200 free with her time of 1:53.21.

Senior Shawn Matthews led the Green and Gold on Senior Day, winning the 200 back in a Rec Center Pool record time of 1:51.06. With the victory, Matthews runs his career victories mark to 41, ranking him fourth all-time at the College.

In his final swim in the Rec Center Pool, senior Nader Amer anchored the victorious 200 free relay for the Tribe, chasing down the ECU swimmer in the final 50 yards with his split of 21.04. The team of Amer, junior Kevin Gallagher, sophomore Michael Naccarelli, and sophomore Andrew Quesenberry set a new Rec Center Pool record, touching the wall in a time of 1:25.09.

Along with the relay win, Quesenberry also notched his first collegiate individual victory against the Pirates, winning the 50 free with a personal-best time of 21.23. Also earning a win for the Tribe was Gallagher, who finished first in the 200 free with his time of 1:44.90.

The William and Mary Tribe swimming and diving teams will now turn their attention to the CAA Championships. The four-day meet is set to begin on February 25 in Fairfax, Virginia.
