Dubai Pulls Out of Hosting 2013 FINA World Championships

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, May 15. ACCORDING to a press release distributed by FINA today, Dubai and FINA have mutually agreed to terminate an agreement to have Dubai host the 2013 FINA World Championships.

Meanwhile, the 2010 FINA World Short Course Championships scheduled for Dec. 15-19 is still set to be hosted by Dubai.

"We believe that, at this stage, it is of paramount importance to further improve the impact of the aquatic disciplines in this Middle East region before staging a FINA World Championships with our five sports," FINA president Julio Maglione said. "The UAE authorities will certainly do their best to accomplish this goal and the first step towards achieving it will be the organization of a very successful FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in December."

FINA will begin immediately to look at other possible locations to host the 2013 World Championships.
