Depolo and Brockley Tie in One of Many Close Races at Mt. Hood Futures Championship

Close races ruled the night on the second day of the Futures Championship in Gresham Oregon. One of the most exciting races of the night culminated in a tie in the women’s 100 breastroke. Donna Depolo and Piper Brockley battled for the win through the entire race, eventually tying for first. Both women threw down a swift 1:12.39. They were followed closely behind by Blaise Wittenauer-Lee who won the bronze with a time of 1:12.69.

Earlier in the evening, the women’s 200-meter freestyle also saw a close finish, featuring a battle between Halladay Kinsey and Cali Raukar. Kinsey pulled out a win to post a 2:03.83 to Raukar’s 2:03.98. McKenna Meyer followed for bronze with a time of 2:04.86.

The men’s 200 free also featured a razor-close finish with a battle shaping up between Marc Morizono and Liam O’Haimhirgin. Morizono secured the win with a swift 1:52.20 to outtouch O’Haimhirgin’s 1:52.31. Bradley Cline followed closely behind, posting a 1:52.73.

The men’s 100-meter breast was dominated by Gabriel Rooker, whose swift 1:03.39 was enough for the win, as well as securing him a qualifying time for Olympic Trials. Rooker was followed by Zachary Stevens, who posted a time of 1:04.46. Eric Tolman followed closely with a time of 1:04.83.

The women’s 100-meter butterfly went to Anna Brolin, who posted a time of 1:02.08. She was followed by Lauren Green, who was close behind with a finish of 1:02.41. Makenna Turner was third by one-hundreth of a second, posting a 1:02.42.

The men’s 100-meter butterfly featured an exciting finish with Liam McCloskey pulling out an exciting win in a time of 54.63, qualifying himself for Olympic Trials. He was followed by Yoessef Tibazi whose 54.73 was also an Olympic Trials qualifying time. Micah Ornelas was third in 55.25.

In the final race of the night, the women’s 400-meter IM also saw a close finish, with the race shaping up to be a battle between Jessica Epps and Jordan Anderson. Epps eventually won, finishing in 4:54.59. This time was just under the qualifying time for Olympic Trials. She was followed by Anderson who was 4:55.02. Cassidy Stein was third in 4:56.29.

On the men’s side, Michael White won the 400-meter IM with a time of 4:28.46. He was followed by Keltan Lawler who hit the wall in 4:30.32. Braden Vines was third with a finish of 4:32.23.

The Futures Championship will continue tomorrow, with the meet concluding this Sunday.
