Denver vs. Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, California, October 29. THE University of Denver men bounced back from its loss at UC Santa Barbara Friday with a 175-112 victory over Cal Poly at the Anderson Aquatic Center. The women defeated the Mustangs 171-129 to go undefeated in California for the weekend.
Sophomore Tanner Krall (Pueblo,Colo.) carried over his success at UCSB to today's meet winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.89. For the second day in a row Krall finished atop the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.72, nearly three seconds faster than teammate junior Andy Lee(Monroe, La.) who recorded a time of 2:08.60.

Continuing his strong start to the season sophomore Kyle Milberg (Littleton, Colo.) started the day as the lead leg of the first-place 400 Medley Relay (3:25.71) teaming with Krall, junior Jeff Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) and senior Clayton Myers (Arvada, Colo.). Individually Milberg took home the 100 and 200 backstroke titles with times of 51.25 and 1:50.97, respectively. In the 100 butterfly Milberg (50.35) edged out junior Robert Barrett (Scottsdale, Ariz.) by two-hundredths of a second (50.37). Freshman Daniel Ettelson (San Diego, Calif.) recorded his first collegiate victory returning to hishome-state in the 50 freestyle blazing through the water in a time of 21.61.

The women rolled to their third dual victory of the season with help from junior Rachel Burns (Tampa, Fla.) who sped to victory in the 200 freestyle finishing ahead of freshman Bridgette McNally (Lone Tree, Colo.) with a time of 1:52.66. Burns' 51.89 in the 100 freestyle was fast enough to finish in front of freshman Drew Matthews (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) who finished in second place. The women started the day with a first-place finish from sophomores Gretchen Cohen (Centennial, Colo.), Kyrene Clarke (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Matthews, and Burns in the 400 Medley Relay (3:51.82). Senior Jackie Leung(Gresham, Ore.) added nine points to the women's total with her first-place time of 2:04.80 in the 200 butterfly and freshman Samantha Corea (Victoria, British Columbia) finished close to two seconds ahead of Matthews for first-place in the 100 Butterfly with a time of55.64.

Freshman divers Dana Gau (Waukesha, Wis.) and Ross Edfort (Somerset,N.J.) continued the divers' dominance this weekend. Gau recorded a combined dive total of 231.07 in the women's 3-M event while Edfort totaled 264.45 points in the men's 1-M event.

The Pioneers will return to action at the El Pomar Natatorium at the Ritchie Center on November 12 against Utah, Northern Arizona(W), Colorado Mines (M) and Seattle.
