Denver Signs Graves

DENVER, Colorado, November 28. AUSTRALIAN swimmer Melissa Graves has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Denver and will join the Pioneers swimming and diving team in the fall of 2007, head coach Brian Schrader announced today.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Greeves is a butterfly specialist but also swims in backstroke and freestyle events. Greeves attends Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar and trains at Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club, where she is coached by Ian Pope, who was part of the 2000 Olympic Games staff. Greeves is the team captain and ranked in the top 10 National Age group rankings in six events. She was a semi-finalist at the Australian Open SC Championships in 2005 and an Australian National Age Medalist in the 100- and 200-fly events.

"I am excited to have Melissa become part of this recruiting class," Schrader said. "I think she will impact us in several events, including relays. Our staff and team felt like she fit in well here because of her work ethic and desire to improve. She also excels in the classroom, and we will be glad to see her here next year."
