David Boudia Finishes Fifth in Platform at FINA/NVC Diving World Series

DUBAI – David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind./West Lafayette, Ind.) placed fifth in the men’s 10-meter final Saturday at the FINA/NVC Diving World Series in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Boudia scored 529.25 points in the final, highlighted by 102.60 points on his back 3 ½ pike. He earned 91.80 points on both his armstand double back somersault with 2 ½ twists and his back 2 ½ with 2 ½ twists. Boudia, who won the silver at the World Series event in Beijing a week ago, scored between 76.80 and 86.70 points on his other three dives in Saturday’s final in Dubai.

China’s Qiu Bo scored more than 100 points on four of his six dives to take the gold with 612.75 points. Great Britain’s Tom Daley scored 578.25 points for silver. China’s Yang Jian scored more than 100 points on four dives but earned just 57.80 points on his reverse 3 ½ tuck to settle for the bronze with a total of 563.90 points.

Boudia advanced to final after scoring 506.55 points for second place in semifinal A, in which Qiu was first. Yang was the top qualifier out of semifinal B.

Earlier in the week, both of the U.S. men’s synchronized teams finished seventh in their respective events, with Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Austin, Texas) and Dwight Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Austin, Texas) competing synchronized 3-meter and Jordan Windle (Morrisville, N.C./Durham, N.C.) and Toby Stanley (Conway, Ark./Durham, N.C.) diving synchronized 10-meter on Thursday.

China won nine of 10 gold medals awarded in Dubai, including both of the new mixed gender synchronized events. Great Britain’s Jack Laugher won men’s 3-meter on Friday to end China’s hopes for another sweep after Team China won all 10 events at last week’s World Series meet in Beijing.

U.S. divers are next in action at a FINA Grand Prix meet in Leon, Mexico, from April 2-5.
