Davey Resigns Men’s Head Coaching Position at University of Iowa

IOWA CITY, IA, December 26. UNIVERSITY of Iowa head coach John Davey resigned effectively immediately, citing personal reasons for tendering his resignation to Iowa Athletics Director Robert Bowlsby, according to Hawkeye sports reports this week.

“John has been an outstanding representative of the University of Iowa and the Iowa Athletic Department,” said Bowlsby. “We always hate to lose someone of his caliber and talents.”

Marc Long, a former Hawkeye All-American and currently women’s interim head coach, was named interim men’s coach in addition to his duties with the women. Assistants Robert Pinter and Frannie DeBord will each work with both men and women. Bob Rydze continues his role as coach to both the men and women Hawkeye divers.

Davey leaves after 6+ seasons as head coach for the men. He was a 10 time All-American and won10 Big Ten crowns in his Hawkeye swimming career.
