Danila Izotov Pushes Gold-Medal Tally to Three on Second Night of European Youth Olympic Festival Swimming

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 24. Russia's Danila Izotov won two more gold medals to improve her meet-total to three during the second night of competition at the European Youth Olympic Festival taking place in Belgrade, Serbia this week.

Men's 400 freestyle 16&U
Russia's Danila Izotov claimed his second title in as many days with a time of 3:58.70. He added that crown to his 100 free win from yesterday. Today, he beat Poland's Krzysztof Pielowski and Hungary's Peter Bernek, who finished second and third with clockings of 4:00.26 and 4:01.19, respectively.

Women's 100 freestyle 14&U
Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom overcame a second-place finish in the 100 fly yesterday to win the 100 free in 56.46. The Swede touched ahead of Germany's Silke Lippok, who hit the wall in 57.87 for second place, while Italy's Nicole Villani placed third in 58.82. Notably, Great Britain's Emma Graham won the B final with a time of 58.34 that would have given her third in the championship heat.

Men's 100 butterfly 16&U
Russia's Kirill Chibisov snagged the men's 100 fly title in 55.53, while Germany's Melvin Herrmann (56.45) and Great Britain's Karl Botha (56.50) rounded out the top three.

Women's 200 backstroke 14&U
France's Marie Jugnet easily won the women's 200 back in 2:16.32 as she built upon her lead with each 50. Poland's Klaudia Nazieblo held off a hard charging Great Britain's Aimee Willmott, 2:18.72 to 2:18.92, for second.

Men's 200 breaststroke 16&U
Germany's Troy Arnicke stopped the clock in 2:18.31 to win the men's 200 breast, while Sweden's Anton Lagerqvist placed second in 2:19.25. Hungary's Dominik Kozma finished third in 2:20.14 after taking second in the 200 IM yesterday.

Women's 200 IM 14&U
After coming up short in both the 400 free yesterday and the 200 back today, Great Britain's Aimee Willmott broke through with a 2:19.37 to win the 200 IM. Slovakia's Katarina Listopadova, who won the 100 fly B final with a time that would have taken third in the meet if she'd made it to the championship heat yesterday, grabbed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.51, while Hungary's Orsolya Jokay rounded out the top three in 2:23.11.

Mixed Relays
Russia's team of Ivan Udalov, Danila Izotov, Antonina Faustova and Vera Artemova won the 16&U mixed 400 medley relay in 8:02.74, while Italy's squad of Dario Palladino, Francesco Donin, Chiara Masini Luccetti and Nicole Villani finished second in 8:05.83.
