Crippen, Kelley Take 800 at Long Island Open

NASSAU, New York, July 10. GERMANTOWN Academy's Fran Crippen cruised to victory in the men's 800 meter freestyle to highlight the first day of competition at the Long Island Open, held at the Eisenhower Pool in the Nassau County Aqwuatic Center, in Nassau, New York.

Crippen, a University of Virginia sophomore-to-be, led all the way and clocked 8:06.03, less than four seconds off the meet record, to defeat hometown swimmer Brendan Nelligan, 20, LIAC, at 8:16.22.

The women's 800 saw two BAD 16 year-olds take the top two spots. Leading from start to finish, Kim Kelly clocked 8:45.76. Her teammate, Whitney Sprague, was second in 8:58.40.
