Crippen and Smith ACC’s First Swimmers of the Week

Virginia, October 18. TWO swimmers from Virginia schools took home the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimmer of the Week awards. Sara Smith, a freshman from Virginia Tech, won her first ACC award for posting top times in the 200 IM, 2:04.65, 100 free, 50.58 and NCAA "B" standard, and the 200 free, 1:51.29.

Over VT's past two dual meets, Smith has set four pool records and logged four wins early in her college career.

On the men's side veteran winner of the ACC award, Fran Crippen, was named swimmer of the week for the eighth time. He earned the honor by posting wins against the powerful Florida Gators in the 500 free, 4:27.87, and the 1000 free, 9:08.62.

Crippen is an 11-time All American and a six-time ACC champ who earned Freshman of the Year honors back in 2003.
