Cracking Down on Doping Offenders

OSAKA, Japan, August 24. JACQUES Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee, said at a news conference that major doping violators could be banned from the Olympics despite, in some cases, the end of their bans. Rogge made the announcement Friday during a press conference in Japan. The decision is intended to crack down harder on drug cheats.

"Every athlete who is penalized for more than six months which would automatically be the case for anabolic steroids, blood transfusions and EPO could not participate in the next Games," Rogge said after a meeting with the IAAF athletics federation.
