Cowboys Sweep Colorado School of Mines, Colorado and Metro State

LARAMIE, Wyoming, November 9. THE University of Wyoming Swimming and Diving team defeated the Colorado School of Mines, Colorado and Metro State Saturday afternoon at Corbett Pool. The Cowboys beat the School of Mines 134-70, Colorado 128-59 and Metro State 140-34.

The Cowboys placed a swimmer first in 10 of 13 events including both the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Brad Leopold, Scott Usher, Gene Birks and Grant Kritzinger set the pace for the day capturing a first place finish in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 1:35.41 was nearly 10 seconds faster than the second place team. In the 200 freestyle relay, Birks, Bryce Perica, Leopold and Kritzinger swam a first place time of 1:28.28

The Cowboys were paced by senior captain Galen Gough and freshman Emre Aydin who each won two events on the day. Gough won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.12 and the 100 butterfly in 52.64 while Aydin won the 1000 freestyle in 10:02.22 and the 500 freestyle in 4:56.00.

Gene Birks and Scott Usher also came away with event victories for the Cowboys. Usher won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.24 and Birks won the 200 IM in a time of 1:59.56.

Freshman diver John Lynch had a very strong day and earned team points for the Cowboys in both the 1 and 3 meter dives. He scored a 227.15 on the 1 meter and a 254.60 in the 3 meter.

Six Cowgirls also competed in an exhibition with Colorado on the day. Kenzie Kotby and Adrianne Gers each won two events while Megan Boggs captured one event victory. Kotby won both the 50 freestyle (26.27) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.15) while Gers won the 1000 freestyle (11:19.29) and the 500 freestyle (5:30.57). Boggs won the 200 freestyle, finishing in a time of 2:08.28.
