Coral Spring’s Caitlin Cole Wins Division At Florida Gold Coast Top 16 Competition

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla, November 16. THE Coral Springs Swim Club is proud to announce that 8-year old Caitlin Cole won her division of the Florida Gold Coast’s Top 16 Fall Competition. To make the Top 16 list, Caitlin competed in six separate events during 3 selected meets throughout the fall swimming season against over 3000 year-round swimmers. Points were awarded for fastest times in each event and the points for each event were then added to determine the best all-around swimmers in South Florida. 45 teams from 5 counties are eligible to compete in the FGC “Top 16” – Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach and Martin.

Caitlin had the unbelievable overall fastest times of the competition in both the 50-yard butterfly of 34.82 and the 100-yard IM of 1:20.61. She went on to have the second fastest times in both the 100-yard freestyle with 1:10.54 and the 50-yard backstroke with 38.66. Caitlin placed fourth overall in the 50-yard breaststroke with 42.65 and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with 32.83. These outstanding efforts gave her the points needed to win the entire competition for her age group.

Caitlin is a graduate of the Swim America of Coral Springs program where former Olympian “Biggie” Lohberg taught her the technical aspects of Caitlin’s first place butterfly. After graduating, Caitlin joined the Coral Springs Swim Club two and a half years ago. Regarding Caitlin’s swimming goals she says, “I want to be the best swimmer in the USA. I want to go to the Olympics and win a gold medal.” Caitlin also added “One day, I would like to own my own swimming teaming so I can coach really fast kids like Michael Lohberg the Head Coach.”

Caitlin’s current coach, Suzanne Schieltz, states, “Caitlin is a very determined young lady. She gives 100% during practice and at meets. She is very dedicated to the sport of swimming.” Coach “Suz” as she is known to the kids said “Caitlin is very caring towards her other teammates who always help push her to be her best. She also knows how to be silly and have fun at practice too.” Regarding what makes Caitlin top in her age group, Coach Suzanne commented, “Caitlin has always been very good technically. I have made some adjustments that she picked up on very quickly. She has a real drive to be successful in swimming.”

Caitlin is a straight “A” 3rd grade student at Saint Ambrose Catholic School in Deerfield Beach and the daughter of Meg and Bill Cole of Eagle Trace. Mrs. Cole is an area physician and Mr. Cole works for Georgia Pacific. Her brother, 7-year old Brandon is also on the team.

Caitlin will be honored along with the rest of the CSSC Top 16 swimmers at the FGC annually banquet to be held on April 27th. Congratulations Caitlin!
