Conversation With Texas A&M’s Steve Bultman in March Issue

PHOENIX, Arizona, Marcy 17. WITH both the men's and women's NCAA Division I Championships being held on the campus of Texas A&M, it seemed only fitting to check in with head women's coach Steve Bultman in our March issue of Swimming World Magazine. Bultman is in the process of building a special women's swimming program at Texas A&M. In 2008, Bultman was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, and guided his team to a fourth-place finish at NCAA's.

This month's edition of the Swimming Technique section contains a wide-ranging interview with Bultman concerning how he conducts his program and what he feels are the keys to its continued improvement.

The companion portion of this article, "How They Train," focuses on Texas A&M swimmer, and editorial intern at this publication, Kristen Heiss. According to Bultman, a real turning point for Heiss came in the summer of 2007 when she made significant time drops in her 200 meter back. From that point she was part of the U.S. team at the Japan Grand Prix, finished third in the 200 yard back and 500 yard free at 2008 NCAA's and was fifth in the 200 meter back at last year's Olympic Trials.
