Columbia Women Edge Out Bucknell, 190.5-187.5

NEW YORK, New York, January 21. THE Bucknell women's swimming and diving team fell to Columbia, 187.5-190.5, in the Uris Swimming Center on Saturday afternoon. With the setback, the Bison are now 2-5-1 overall, while the Lions improve to 4-3 on the year.

Massie won the one-meter with a score of 252.00, to come within less than five points of the Bucknell record as she currently ranks second on the program's top-10 list. She also managed a solid outing on the three-meter board as her mark of 245.00 was second to only the NCAA Zone Championships-qualifying mark posted by Columbia's Shannon Hosey as she totaled 293.00 points in the event.

Behind Massie, freshman Rebecca Bersani (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) took third in the one-meter (222.00) and fourth in the three-meter (224.00), while classmate Allison FitzPatrick (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy) improved her personal best to seventh in Bison history as she recorded a mark of 221.00 on the one-meter board.

In the swimming events, senior Nikki Woodward (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) finished first in the 500 free and freshman Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), sophomore Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) and senior Rebecca Scheffter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) all took home two runner-up showings apiece. Warren finished second in the 100 back with a time of one minute, 0.44 seconds and in the 200 back, touching the wall in 2:11.17. Morris notched her second-place times in the 100 and 200 breast, 1:09.00 and 2:30.09, respectively. Scheffter was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:58.78) and the 100 free (55.05) while also capturing third in the 50 free (25.29).

Senior Katherine Munson (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and junior Kirsten Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins) scored in multiple events as well. Munson swam the 100 fly in 1:00.81, to place third and finished fourth in both the 50 free (25.45) and the 100 back (1:02.64). Skroski claimed third in the 1,650 free, touching the wall in 18:02.40 and was fourth in the 100 free with a time of 56.27.

Other top finishers for the Bison included freshman Megan Mongan (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) who posted the second-fastest time in the 200 IM (2:14.09), sophomore Susan Horstmann (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) who was third in the 200 free (2:00.05), sophomore Ally St. Claire (Silver Spring, Md./Edmund Burke) who finished fourth in the 1,650 free (18:13.76) and sophomore Nikki Seaman (Cleveland, Ohio/The Hawken School) who took fourth in the 100 breast (1:11.45).

Warren, Skroski, Horstmann and Scheffter teamed up to record a second-place time of 2:14.09 in the 400 free relay and Bucknell's 200 medley relay squad of Warren, Morris, Munson and Mongan combined for a time of 1:52.10, which was good for third in the event.

The Bison return to action next Saturday, Jan. 27, when the squad will play host to Lehigh in its final dual meet of the season, beginning at 2 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
