Colorado School Of The Mines Vs. Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyoming, November 16. THE Cowboy swimming and diving team won 12 of 13 events as they swam past the Colorado School of Mines 145-96, Friday night in Denver, Colo. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 2-2 overall.

"Things went well tonight and I am happy with the way the kids swam," said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "It was nice to do some different things with our line-up and it was great to see our freshmen contribute so much. The school of mines has a great facility and it is fun to come down here and race these guys."

The Pokes got the meet started with a bang as they won the 400 medley relay with freshmen Nathan Fuller and juniors Matt Urich, Alex Larkin and Eli Bell turning in a time of 3:26.41. The Cowboys then rattled off three freestyle wins in the 1000, 200 and 50. Freshman Sean Sweet won the 1000 (10:09.33), sophomore Tommy Gregory won the 200 (1:44.44) and freshman Christian Verbrugghe won the 50 (21.90).

In the middle of the dual, the Cowboys won the 200 IM, 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Freshman James Rigg won the IM (1:57.79), freshman David Schmitt won the fly (1:59.58) and Urich won the free (47.70).

Down the stretch, the Pokes won three of the final four swimming races with Fuller placing first in the 200 backstroke (1:58.00), senior Sam King winning the 500 freestyle (4:48.42) and the 200 freestyle relay team placing first. Swimming the relay was Bell, Gregory, Urich and freshman Jamie Comrie.

The Cowboy divers did their part in the win as they swept both diving events. Freshman Colter Yancey won the one-meter event (286.20) and junior Tyler Miller won the three-meter event (278.95).

The Pokes will take next weekend off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action in two weeks. The Cowboy and Cowgirl swimmers will compete in the Husky Invite in Seattle, Wash. from Nov. 29-Dec. 1 while the divers will compete in the Texas Invite in Austin, Texas the same weekend
