Colorado, Arizona Dominate Day 2 at 4 Corners Champs

TEMPE, Ariz. Aug. 3. SWIMMERS from Colorado and Arizona dominated the victory stand on the second day of competition at the Four Corners Championships in Tempe, Arizona. Coloradans and Zonies won five events each.

The Colorado winners:

Laurie Musgrave, 19 Denver Hilltoppers 100 M Breaststroke 1:13.81

*Kyle Miranda, 15 Denver Hilltoppers 100 M Breaststroke 1:05.39

*Anna Trinidad, 17 Colorado Springs 200 M Backstroke 2:19.82*

Luke Wagner, 19 Greenwood 200 M Backstroke 2:03.66

*Courtney Allen, 23 Air Force Falfins 50 M Freestyle :26.25

The Arizona winners:
*Gavin Meadows, 23 Sun Devil Aquatics 200 M Freestyle 1:53.56

Kalyn Keller, 16 Sun Devil Aquatics 200 M Freestyle 2:05.36

*Roland Schoeman, 21 Phoenix Swim Club 50 M Freestyle :22.56

*Cara Devinny, 18 Phoenix Swim Club 400 M Individual Medley 4:55.94

Adam Bugledich, 21 Sun Devil Aquatics 400 M Individual Medley 4:34.71

* Winning time qualifies for upcoming USA Swimming National Championships in Clovis, California in 1 1/2 weeks.

The most outstanding swim of the day was probably the 50 freestyle win by Roland Schoeman of Phoenix Swim Club who won just a week after returning from winning bronze in the event for South Africa in the recently completed World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Another note of interest in the Men's 50 freestyle concerned the 4th place finisher. Richard Hall, Phoenix Swim Club, a former Arizona high school record holder at 500 Yards and the younger brother of 8-time Olympic medalist Gary Hall, Jr., made his lifetime first national standard at :23.65.

Other athletes making a lifetime first national standard included winners Miranda and Devinney, plus Matt Jones,18, LOBO, 2:06.29, Men's 200 M backstroke and from an afternoon Time Trial, Michael Passey, 18, Desert Thunder, 55.96 in Men's 100 M Butterfly.
