Colonial Athletic Association Announces Annual Awards

RICHMOND, Virginia, April 19. GEORGE Mason senior Tom Koucheravy (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson) was chosen as the CAA Men's Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season, while Drexel senior Brett Molash (Newark, Del./DuPont) was selected as the CAA Men's Diver of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches. Meanwhile, William & Mary freshman Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) has been chosen as the 2007 CAA Women's Swimmer of the Year and Drexel sophomore Kate Hynes (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) has been selected the CAA Diver of the Year for the second straight season in a vote by the league's head coaches.

Joining Koucheravy and Molash as 2007 award winners in men's swimming and diving were UNC Wilmington's Rob Anderson (Durham, N.C./Anderson), who was selected Rookie of the Year in swimming, and Towson's Bradley Bolin (Covina, Calif./Temple City), who was named Rookie of the Year in diving. Additionally, James Madison's Chris Feaster was voted as Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, while Drexel's Larry May was selected as the men's diving Coach of the Year.

Koucheravy took first place in the 200, 500 and 1650-freestyle and was a member of George Mason's winning 800 freestyle relay team at the CAA Championship to lead the Patriots to a second-place team finish. The senior broke his own meet record in the 1650 free with a time of 15:04.87 to capture the event for the fourth year in a row. He also shattered his own CAA meet record in the 500 free with a time of 4:21.42 and was first in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.56. Koucheravy went on to earn honorable mention All-America honors after placing 15th overall in the 1650 free at the NCAA Championships. He is the just the second three-time CAA Swimmer of the Year, joining James Madison's Randy Parker who earned the honor from 1986-88.

Molash finished first in the 3-meter dive and placed second in the 1-meter dive at the CAA Championship to earn Diver of the Meet honors. His score of 375.35 in the 3-meter competition was over 65 points ahead of his nearest competitor and his score of 307.50 in the 1-meter was just 5.5 points behind the winner. Molash went on to place 12th in the 3-meter dive and 17th in the 1-meter dive at the NCAA Zones. He is the third different Drexel athlete in the past six years to be named CAA Diver of the Year.

Anderson placed in the top seven in six different events at the CAA Championship as UNC Wilmington captured its sixth straight team title. The freshman was fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.64), fifth in the 50 freestyle (20.85) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (57.43). He was also a member of UNCW's first-place 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams and swam lead off on the Seahawks' 400 freestyle relay team that placed second. Anderson is only the second UNCW athlete to earn Rookie Swimmer of the Year honors along with Warren Lockie in 2002.

Bolin scored 27 points at the CAA Championship, which was the most of any freshman diver in the conference. He placed fifth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 246.25 and was sixth in the 3-meter diver with a score of 236.85. Bolin was the first Towson diver to reach the finals in either event since joining the CAA in 2001-02, and is also the Tigers' first Rookie Diver of the Year.

Feaster was named CAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year for the first time after guiding James Madison to a third-place team finish. May received Diving Coach of the Year accolades for the second time in the past four seasons.

Joining Radloff and Hynes as major award winners in women's swimming and diving were William & Mary freshman Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park), who was named swimming Rookie of the Year and George Mason's Charlotte Edwards (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock), who was named Rookie Diver of the Year. In addition, William & Mary's McGee Moody was selected women's swimming Coach of the Year and Drexel's Larry May was voted women's diving Coach of the Year.

Radloff turned in an incredible performance at the CAA Championship, winning three individual events as well as being part of three first-place relay teams. The freshman finished first in the 50 freestyle (22.92), 100 freestyle (49.66) and 200 freestyle (1:48.30), clearing the "NCAA B Cut" in all three events and breaking the CAA meet record in the 100 free and 200 free. She was also a member of three relay teams that set new CAA records in the 200 medley relay (1:44.00), 400 freestyle relay (3:24.84) and 800 freestyle relay (7:24.05). Radloff became the first William & Mary swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championship since 1983, taking part in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle. She is just the second Tribe athlete to be chosen as CAA Swimmer of the Year, joining Ruth Anne Miller in 2003.

Hynes captured the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the CAA Championship and set meet records in both. The sophomore recorded a total of 309.85 in the 1-meter and 324.55 in the 3-meter and was picked as the Outstanding Diver of the Meet. She went to post first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the NCAA Zone Championships. At the NCAA Championships, Hynes finished 26th nationally in the 1-meter and 32nd in the 3-meter. Hynes was the CAA Diver and Rookie Diver of the Year in 2006.

Alles was tied for second individually in overall points (54) at the CAA Championship. The freshman finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:06.89) and the 400 individual medley (4:26.98) and was part of W&M's winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:24.84). She also placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 2:23.65. Alles is the Tribe's second CAA Rookie Swimmer of the Year, joining Alyssa Lengle in 2001.

Edwards led all freshmen divers with 20 points at the CAA Championship. She finished fifth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 216.75 and placed 11th in the 1-meter dive with a total of 203.20. Edwards is the fifth different George Mason athlete to claim Rookie Diver of the Year honors in the past seven seasons.

Moody earned his first CAA Coach of the Year honor after guiding William & Mary to its first-ever CAA title with 623 points. May earned women's Diving Coach of the Year honors for the second year in a row after mentoring Hynes to repeat conference titles in both the one and three-meter competitions.
